Marlborough Close

PCA received planning approval for this new build house in the centre of Bishop’s Stortford in early 2020. Our proposals for this three-bedroomed detached house are envisaged as a modern interpretation of a vernacular dwelling, using the sloping site to provide a solution that, whilst providing high quality accommodation with generous room sizes and ceiling heights, also remains subservient to the existing dwelling. The use of facing brickwork is part of the familiar palette of building materials in Bishop’s Stortford and the sloping roof elements deliberately echo the neighbouring building forms whilst also giving a richness to the composition.

The projecting entrance emphasises the modest scale of the proposal whilst allowing the building to address the common space outside. The proposals seek to retain, protect and enhance existing landscape features which are of amenity and biodiversity value. As such, wherever possible existing hedgerows and mature trees have been retained with the minimum amount of thinning out of the trees to the front of the property just sufficient to provide the parking spaces necessary.
